As a beginner student learning French one of the first phrases you’ll want to learn is how to say I miss you. Of all the sentences you can study this is one of the most useful for your new French Friends! To say I miss you you say: Tu me manques. Let’s break it down. Tu is you in the familiar form. Me is part of what’s called a reflexive verb in French and it really means to me. Manques means to miss. In our example sentence we learn, Tu sais quoi, mon ami – which means, you know my friend? Tu me manques beaucoup aujourd’hui. I miss you a lot today.

The formal way of asking somebody their name in French is, “Comment vous-appelez vous?” Vous means you for somebody who you don’t know. If you’re asking a friend or somebody your age or younger you ask, “Comment tu t’appelles?” It’s important that you get the “u” sound right on the “tu” or you as it’s very different from English. It’s okay if you can’t get it perfectly the first time. Keep trying! To say, “My name is” in French you say, “Je m’appelle + your name. So, I’d say “Je m’appelle David”. Je in French means I.
